Message Queue Architecture built on Arduino Yun and Particle Photon

In this paper I will give a practical overview of how small embedded devices can be connected together, share information and call registered functions using a message queue architecture. A centralized broker enables the communication between two micro-controllers. On top of this architecture, there was implemented an rpc functionality, which was then used for a response time measurement. The data shows that the most of the rpc calls needed only 68-167 milliseconds, but the longer the test runs the higher was the average response time, but it will not take longer than a half of a second. RPC calls which carries the start time, has an unusual other behaviour, in terms of response time, than the normal implementation. Piggyback function calls can take up to 18 seconds to get a response for the function call.

IT-Departments and their Challenges with Internet of Things

I'm realy happy to announce, that I finished my paper for IT-Departments, which want to do their first steps in the world of Internet of Things (IoT). In my work, I focused on the challenges, which the IT-Department has to tackle and should keep in mind. I want to give CIO's, which are new in this topic, an overview to get to know with IoT. I compare also some actual IoT products and tried to classify them. I conclude my work with an outlook.

My paper can be found here (german).
My ten minute presentation can be viewed here (german).

Software Modeling

The lecture software modeling is a container for practical work as software architect in therms of uml-modeling.
The practical work contains two parts. The first one is a project which every student has to do on his own. The second part is done in a team, where the teams model a game. Our game was the mobile game "Angry Birds". In both parts, we create presentations about our models.

Presentation about the first part.

Presentation about the second part.

Requirement Analysis

In the lecture Requirement Analysis, my team and I tried technics which came from the basic software engineering part of software development. We go through different process and granularities to define, how our system should work and how the user stories should be implemented.

The final document can be found here.

Smart Grid / Smart Meter

In the lecture of next generation internet, I had a look at the actual development in smart grid and smart meters. I tried to cover a huge overview over many topics related to smart meter or grids.
The presentation about this topic can be found here.

Schacht

In the winter semester, I participate again at the game project. This semester we developed a new game idea and we wanted to archive a finished game at the end of the semester. We reached our goal nearly and we can proudly present our medianight version here.
My job was, to manage the teams and get all students stayed focused on the project. I have also set some environment objects in the engine and was responsible for the trailer and the booth for the medianight. I also want to mention the many minor stuff and organisation which is inevitable in the crunch time and this many students.
The project management team contains me and another student. We tried to use the agile project management strategy with students. Our lessons learned report can be found here.
A downloadable version of our game will be soon published.

Software Quality

In the lecture Software Quality and Testing, I prepared with two other students a test document for code, which I used in my bachelor thesis.
The document contains black and white testing and implementations for the used test cases.
The document is viewable here.
